Legal Document Intelligence Platform

Litigation review and timeline construction took two to three weeks per case, with lawyers spending most of their time organising documents rather than working on strategy. We built a system that reads the case file, maps the parties and their relationships, builds the timeline, and drafts from it.

The challenge

A law firm was handling complex litigation cases involving large volumes of legal documents, pleadings and evidence files. Manual document review and timeline creation was taking two to three weeks per case, with high error rates in identifying key events and document relationships. Lawyers were spending around 60% of their time on document organisation rather than legal strategy.

What we built

We implemented a legal document intelligence platform built on AWS Textract, a retrieval-augmented generation layer over the case corpus, Gemini and a React front end. The system processes legal documents, extracts entities and events, builds a knowledge graph of the parties involved, generates case timelines, drafts documents, and supports conversational analysis of a case.

  • Intelligent document processing. Ingests pleadings, evidence files and supporting documents.
  • Entity extraction and knowledge graph. Extracts the parties involved and maps the relationships between them, so who is connected to whom is visible rather than buried in the file.
  • Timeline generation. Extracts key events and assembles a case timeline, with automated detection of disputed points.
  • Document mapping. Relates documents to one another and to the events they evidence.
  • Document drafting. Drafts legal documents from within the system, against the case material already loaded.
  • Conversational assistant. Natural-language questions about the case, answered against the document set.
